Mexican Skull Card

Hello Crafters

Well it truly has been a busy week, one of which I am glad to forget but, I have had a few hours where I got lost in creativity to lift my mood and I loved the results, and I am so glad to be able to share this one with you today.

Mr Kim’s daughter-in-law has her birthday today, and hopefully she has received this card by now as she loves Mexican Skulls and I saw the die whilst I was shopping in The Range and couldn’t resist! However I did need a good reason to purchase those stitched flowers and I think this is as good a reason as any!

What is a Mexican Skull?

Calavera (Spanish) – The term is most often applied to decorative or edible skulls made (usually by hand) from either sugar (called Alfeñiques) or clay which are used in the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) and the Roman Catholic holiday All Souls’ Day

Items Used:

I was thinking about this for days before I made it, and I woke up with this imagine for the card, and it flew together.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, and please remember your sun screen, it looks like it will be a scorcher 🙂

Hugs

Crafty Saturday

Hello Crafters

Kim Styles CardsHow is your Bank Holiday weekend. If only us crafters could have an extra day every week, oh wouldn’t that be fun!

Yesterday I was on a mission to create, as it has been a pretty busy week and Friday was an ‘OMG let me out’ day at work Friday, computers were definitely conspiring to send me off my rocker, so I was determined to forget everything and have a selfish crafting day. The other half decided to go off down the allotment for the afternoon as he thought the weeds were ganging up against him and multiplying at a rapid rate. I believe him, as I had to send out a search party as he hadn’t come home, I was beginning to think they were holding him hostage, either that or the ‘Man Shed’ was buy a pint get 1 free!

I am usually an organised person, even if it is chaos, it’s usually organised chaos, so I started off with some sort of order of what I wanted to get done, but I hadn’t crafted properly over the last couple of weeks, just a bit here and there, so for some reason I was all of a dither and it took an age to get what I wanted to an end product, and just as I thought I was finished, the gremlins struck! Must have followed me home from work, darn it! Oooooh I was so mad I could crush a grape!!

So off I marched to the kitchen, so armed with a coffee and with a little inspirational talk to myself, I started again. A-Ha the creative spirit was alive! This was much better….I could feel the vibes….yes, it was back! Phew, for a minute there I thought I was going to need the creative hospital!

So let’s have a quick peak at what I managed to squeeze out of the creative flow…..

SYMPATHY CARD

Kim Styles Cards

Yes, unfortunately, yet again we needed another sympathy card. This was for a customer of my other half, who passed suddenly, so suddenly that he had only seen her the day before, so it was a little bit of a shock.

I chose to make it simple, so I stamped an image of roses from Honey Doo Crafts added a ribbon and black pearls, and stamped a sentiment with Justrite Caring Thoughts.

The inside followed the same theme, just using a different sentiment with the rose on the other side.

Simple but heartfelt, which was what I really wanted. I seem to be leaning more toward the clean simple look lately, as it is classic and will always be a loved style.

NEPHEW’S BIRTHDAYKim Styles Cards

Next up was my Nephew’s birthday card, and I was so hoping to get it finished in time to put in the post, but alas, you cannot tell your talent to get a move on when your heart wants to ‘go with the flow’, so although I will be posting today, and he won’t get  it until the day after his birthday, my intentions were honourable!

He was a keen sailor so I wanted to use the boat die, but I thought it needed to be in a Kim Styles Cardssetting so decided to give it one! I used Memento inks and Inkylicious Ink Dusters, with Inkylicious Stamps – Twiggy Branch, Take Flight, and Prickly Shrubs. The grasses were from Stampscapes – Nature Sheet 6. For the sentiment I used Waltzingmouse Stamps. For the landscapes I used Inkylicious Mountain Valley Stencil. Brilliant tool, I would tell any one to have one. It’s a must have to make your scenes look real!

Inside I used a Clarity Stencil – Jo’s Bubbles and a stamped sentiment from Phil Martin that I bought at Ally Pally.

I was very pleased with how it came out, better than the imagine I had in my mind!

So last but not least was a card that someone had asked me to make for them, mum’s birthday and pink, two very good descriptions and a lot of artistic licence in them there words!

MUM’S CARDKim Styles Cards

So as I said earlier, this little beauty was the second attempt and went together swimmingly considering my previous attempt!Kim Styles Cards

I made the background myself using Distress Inks – Worn Lipstick, Spun Sugar and Antique Linen with Inkylicious Watercolour Poppy Stamp. It was a stamp I was undecided about, but now I love it! Here you can see the background, it looks quite serene.

The dies were all Spellbinders – Victorian Accents, Labels 28, Radiant Rectangles, Fancy Lattice, I used Tonic Dies – Royal Fern for the leaves.

Justrite Large Fancy Sentiments to finish.

So there you have it folks, a little crafting and blogging and I feel ready to tackle the world again….amazing what creative inspiration can do isn’t it!

So go get crafting. Have a lovely weekend.

Hugs
