Pet Sympathy Box

Hello Crafters

I hope you have had a peaceful weekend and that you have managed to fit in lots of crafting.

As usual, we have had a busy time, but it is always good to see the family, which in turn made me do some much needed housework and sorting out!

Recently, my boss lost his wonderful furry companion, and I think anyone that has had a pet knows how devastating it can be. 10 years on and I still miss my old pal, but my new pal is growing and reminding me of a lot of traits my old pal had. Poor little mite just had ‘the chop’, so he is recovering from that and has given me so many scares as he was playing with the grandchildren and running around like a lunatic! I was positive he was going to burst his stitches! He seems to have healed so quickly, but he is off for a check up tomorrow to make sure.

So I thought in light of my bosses loss, it would be nice to have a keepsake, so I set about making something that would be useful, practical but also sentimental.

I have had a book type wooden box hanging around for a while waiting for the ‘right’ moment, and this was just the right thing for what I had in mind.

I painted using Bronze Acrylic Paint from The Range, and allowed to dry for about an hour. You can’t see it in the picture but it shimmers, so I didn’t put any sealant over it.

I also didn’t want too much decoration, so using Justrite Pet Sympathy stamps, and Justrite Furry Friends stamped the ‘Faithful Friend’ sentiment and cut using SB Labels 28 Card Creator smallest die. Next stamped the small dog image, the paw, heart and bone and fussy cut, then coloured using Spectrum Noir pens. Next hole punch where indicated. I then stamped and cut the ‘Woof Woof’ sentiment. I stuck this underneath the corner, and then thread the other cut out pieces on a stretch thread intermittent with little gems. Hot glue altogether to the corner with a decorative button and flowers.

Next cut a frame using the largest SB Labels 28 Card Creator and Labels 28 largest die using gold mirra card. Using SB 5 x 7 Matting Basic A I cut the second largest die and SB Labels 28 largest die layered together with decorative spot card, to go underneath the frame, as the frame was slightly larger than the box aperture.

I then cut a piece of spot card to go inside to line the box, and stamped with the paw border and a sentiment.

Next I added a tassel to open the box with using hot glue for a firm fixing and then added pearls on the frame corners to finish.

I hope this will help to keep all those precious things in, including photos. which can be added to the aperture.

Well I hope you like the idea, and that it gives you some inspiration to get out those things we keep tucked away, and make something special with.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
