Something for the boys

Hello Crafters

Hope your weekend has been a creative one although I expect most of you have been in the garden after yesterdays impersonation of the south of france!

Will and I on the other hand have been amusing ourselves, as he can’t go out until he has had all his jabs, which is a while yet, so I made the most of the time in my craft room! You will have to wait until next week to see those as the birthday cards have to be seen by the intendeds first – only fair!

So I have a card that I made for my son to show you today, and it feels like I am getting tKim Styles Cardshe hang of the male cards at long last.

I really love the stamps from Visible Image, so good for men and a bit different from cars, football and beer!

The stamps I used were: Visible Image – Rock Out, Soul Music, Ink Splats, Grunge Flourish and Jakes Skates (edger Stamp) Waltzingmouse Stamps – Compact Family (on sale) Clarity StampsWord Chain 3

Inks: Memento – Summer Sky, Bahama Blue, Nautical Blue, Toffee Crunch, Peanut Brittle, Tuxedo Black

Dies: Poppy Stamps – Melody Music

Card: From Papermill – White and Black. The Range – Silver Mirra

It all went together quite quickly considering I wasn’t 100% sure what the finish project was going to be and mixing the pale blue and beige worked so well! Not colours I would normally put together but on that day, apparently there were no others!

On the inside, I masked off 3 areas to the size I wanted and then over stamped to match the front of the card.

I then stamped the words with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and edged with first a gold glitter pen, although you can’t see the glitter, then a black fineliner on the inside to make it pop. You could add a little grey round the edge before you remove the mask, this would add more depth, but I just edged it.

When I had finished, I actually preferred the inside, so this is a project for another time, me thinks!

All in all, I was pleased with the outcome and it was quick too! Thank goodness says Will, as he wakes from his slumber and now wants me to throw toys all over the place!

Most people want the lovely little puppy stage, but me personally, although I love him to bits, can’t wait for the adult dog, that’s my fun time. Going for walks, knowing he’s trustworthy and solid, and having quality time together with a trained dog or is that owner?!

In the meantime, Will had to have a trim around the eyes today as he was doing a very good impression of Chewbacca!

Chewbacca

See what I mean!

There you go folks, just like I said, nothing normal in my life, not even my puppy!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, I have a feeling Will may impersonate an Ewok next!

Over Stamping

Hello Crafters

Well it has been a while but we all know the reason why, furry cute little thing has been wearing me out! I forgot what it was like to be kept up half the night, and it is just like having a baby all over again. Still it won’t be forever and he is growing rapidly. We can take him out for his first walk next week, and that will help to calm him down (she says with a look of hope!).Kim Styles Cards

Now although I have been busy, I have managed to make a couple of cards, and these were for family members, but I was really pleased with how they came out. Although I have been making cards for years, I was hooked on the die templates and building layered cards, but over the last 4-5 months, I have definitely fallen in love with stamping, and these cards were made using masking and overstamping. Simple but effective.

I stamped the image of ‘Megan’ by Julie Nutting using Memento Black Ink. I stamped again on a piece of thick card and cut around the outer edge and between the arm and body. Reason I suggest thick card is I like to keep these and re-use them as long as I can and if you use thin card or paper, often the ink goes through and leaves marks on the image you are masking. Once they are ready using re-positionable tape, tape over the top of the stamped image, making sure you line up exactly.

I then chose a background imagine, which in these two cards, were Justrite Sweet Vines and Bokeh Polka Dot. Ink up the stamp well, these are 4 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ so quite big, I used Distress Inks because they are wetter and gives you a bit more time to position them, and then stamp over the top of the masked image.

I then just went round the edge with a thin black fineliner pen, using different patterns, and it just finishes it off. I can remember doing this when I was in Secondary School!

The sentiment on the left were made with WMS Compact Family, and if your quick they are half price at the moment, so go grab a bargain! On the right Clarity stamps Word Chain 3 was used and they also have a fantastic offer – If you buy 3 sets you get the 4th free and a free set of Clarity mounts. All in all you save around £20 so well worth a look even if the bank manager will cry!

Both layers were mounted with Silver Mirra card and the main card base was made using Papermill Card, and I can’t find better to be honest and reasonable price. They have just made it possible to buy White and Coloured card together so it’s even better.

Kim Styles CardsFor the inside, I  just used the same background stamps, but paler colours and stamped sentiments using Phil Martin’s Sentimentally Yours.

Finished the edges the same way too.

So there you have it, it can be one of those cards that you fall back on, and I must admit I have ordered some more of these Julie Nutting stamps, as they are quite versatile and fun. Oh I nearly forgot, I coloured the images with Spectrum Noir, shading into the skirt to give it more depth. I’m not expert but I am still learning and that’s the fun with this, there is always something to learn and you never get bored!

So that’s it for now. Life is calming down a bit and I have cards to make tomorrow, which I am looking forward to, but just before I go I obviously have to share what our little man is like now, I think he needs a haircut already, and the vet did say he will probably take after his Mum, Ihasa Apso, so I guess I need to go find a grooming parlour eh 🙂

A New Member!

Hello Crafters

How is your crafting going? Well mine has been very little and there is a very good reason for that, which I shall show you in a minute, and it  involves a level of cuteness that has captured me well and truly!!!

I was browsing the internet last wednesday evening, and I have been looking for a furry companion, for a very long time, and it has been 9 years since I could bring myself to contemplate another family member, but as I was browsing, this advert caught my eye, and one look and I was hooked…….

Kim Style's Cards

He is a C20150605_220255hi-apso, and he is the most sweetest thing ever! He is so good, and so funny, we haven’t stopped laughing since we got him. It must have been fate as his birthday is the day after mine, and his daddy’s mum is the same name as me!

We don’t think he is going to get much bigger than he is, but he is intelligent, loving and affectionate, and very well behaved, so who could ask for more!

Kim Style's Cards

So when I should have been making cards, you will have to forgive me, I was having a lovely time playing with my new family member, so I hope you can forgive me?

He does like to help sometimes, so things may take longer than usual to make or prepare, but as with all crafters, we don’t mind helping new crafters to learn and grow.

So now I have got that out my system (as I can’t help telling everyone lol) I can show you the box and card I made last week for my sister-in-laws birthday.

Kim Style's CardsI made a basketKim Style's Cards with a Scarf inside and because it needed to be fairly big, I made the basket from scratch but used some of the Spellbinders Garden Party to complete it.

I used Spellbinders Grand Ovals (Still available if you click on the link) and Heirloom Oval to make the card, with HC Arianna Blooms and HC Arianna Lace for the flowers with Distress Ink Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade for the colour. I used Inkylicious Delicate Vines for the stamped images.

I also made a box to keep the card in as I wasn’t putting it in the post, and this finished the ensemble with SB Circle Delight to finish.

So there you are, just a quick little hello, and off I go to play with Will, that is if he can keep his eyes open.

Have a lovely evening

Hugs
